Harmonic Series Example

Telekinesis uses the technique of tremolo picking found in this lesson. But more strikingly, it is based primarily on an understanding of musical notes that is found in this lesson. All notes are played with the first six harmonics on each string. No note is fretted. Built as it is from the above two lessons, the composition of the piece does not assume the ability to read notes or even to find notes on the guitar fretboard! A knowledge of the basic physics of the harmonic series, and a good ear, will suffice.

If you read music already, and want to follow along or learn Telekinesis, this link will take you to the sheet music. To simplify the writing process, harmonics are shown moving from the 12th fret for the second harmonic up to the 31st fret for the 6th harmonic. But when I play it, I use the harmonics at the other end of the guitar. Thus:

  • Play 7th fret harmonic instead of 19th.
  • Play 5th fret harmonic instead of 24th.
  • Play 4th fret harmonic instead of 28th.
  • Play 3rd fret harmonic instead of 31st.
